Sarah Gersbach is a young artist who is majoring in art at
Kutztown University. Sarah has also taken additional classes
at the Institute of the Arts in Wyomissing and is a member
of the Berks Arts Council, Berks Art Alliance, Reading
Public Museum and a Candidate member of the Pennsylvania
Watercolor Society.
Sarah works exclusively in watercolor and has had a painting
juried in to the York Art Association’s show in the summer
of 2002 and the 24th Annual Pennsylvania
Watercolor Society’s juried exhibit in 2003. Her most
recent works include gothic architecture as well as
paintings from her travels to Italy this past June. Sarah
has undertaken a number of works for individual public
spaces including the Children’s Clinic of Wyomissing where
Sarah has been a patient for many years. She has also
donated works to a number of charity auctions including the
Berks AIDS Network’s Mayor’s Reception from 2001 through
2004. Another work was donated to the 2003 Humane Society
Art Auction of Berks County.
A large mosaic, “The Buddha,” is on permanent display in the
Pagoda Gallery. Other works by Sarah were displayed during
her exhibit “To Jackie” at the Highlands of Wyomissing this
past February through April and “A Closer Look,” also at the
Pagoda.
Sarah has exhibited her works in a new show at Wilson High
School’s Grandview Gallery in February 2004. This exhibit
is of special significance for Sarah because her former high
school art teacher Robert Chappel has given her so much
encouragement and help to develop as an artist. It is a
point of particular gratitude that Mr. Chappel has given her
this opportunity to display her works in a venue of such
meaning to Sarah.
A weekend exhibit of 12 works will be shown at The
Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Atonement in their “Young
Artists to Watch” series in November of 2004.
The
freshness of Sarah’s work is perhaps due to her youth. At 20
years of age, she has already produced some remarkable
works. It is clear that Sarah is an artist to watch in the
coming years!
