21st Annual Berks Jazz Fest Merchandise Logo Contest

All interested artists and art students are eligible to apply. The winning design will be on thousands of articles of merchandise and promotional items, the festival website and other places as determined. The winning artist will receive publicity for themselves and their design in the BAC newsletter, the festival tabloid and website. No cash awards will be given. Artists should submit their work by Monday, September 20, 2010.

Museum's Arboretum Assistants Need Your Assistance

The Reading Public Museum Arboretum Assistants program is gearing up for the 2010 season, and is currently accepting new volunteers to help in the beautification and upkeep of the Museum’s 25 acres.

Volunteers are asked to contribute 14 Wednesday mornings, 9 a.m. until noon, from April through October. New this year, the program is offering monthly Thursday evening volunteer opportunities for those who cannot participate during the day. Educational and social opportunities are provided to volunteers, many who return year after year.

Call for Entries for "The Health of Thy Countenance" Exhibit

To honor the 250th anniversary of the death of the Moravian leader, Count Nicholas Ludwig von Zinzendorf, the Moravian Archives is offering an exhibit based on Zinzendorf’s sermon regarding “The Health of thy Countenance.” The exhibit is held in conjunction with an art contest for adults and teens on the same theme, and will open at Friends’ Day. They will accept entries for the art contest until August 31. A reception announcing the contest winners will be held September 21, 2010.

Freedman Gallery Installation

Come one, come all to assist Chicago artist Lucy Slivinski install her exhibit at the Freedman Gallery at Albright College, August 30 to September 7. 

Anyone 16 or older may participate.  Lucy Slivinski is an installation artist who makes site-specific work.  She will be scavengering junk yards while she is here, and putting her pieces together on-site in the gallery. Her work DEPENDS ON COMMUNITY EFFORT! Come roll up your sleeves and have some fun!

Program Administrator Opening at the Goggleworks

The Program Departmentat the Goggleworks is currently seeking a highly organized, motivated, and experienced administrative professional for a Program Administrator.  The Program Administrator is responsible for the coordination and administration of all aspects of educational programs at the arts facility.  The Program Administrator reports to the Program Director.  The GoggleWorks offers educational arts programs to students of all ages and skill levels.  The Program Administrator provides administrative support for the GoggleWorks’ Educational Arts programs. 

Responsibilities to include:

  • Administration and organization of all class registrations for tuition and grant driven programs
  • Sole responsibility for data input and tracking in student database system to ensure a high level of accuracy
  • Maintain the GoggleWorks student database with daily updates to class status, teacher contact information, student information, mailing lists, registrations etc
  • Effective communication with teachers and students regarding class status through confirmation letters, contracts, cancellation calls and emails
  • Maintain enrollment and attendance reports and disseminate to teachers and staff as needed
  • Effective communication with the front desk and general staff members and teachers regarding program updates and information
  • Work with the Program Director to produce reports for grant driven programs
  • Place supply orders for programs as necessary upon approval from the Program Coordinator
  • Attend weekly Program Department meetings and give reports on enrollment
  • Provide excellent customer service to parents, students, staff and visitors to the GoggleWorks
  • General department support including phone calls, filing and organization
  • Organize and maintain files as required for registration and parental permissions forms
  • Related Duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree
  2. Experience with arts programming
  3. Experience working with groups of people from diverse age and ethnic backgrounds
  4. Ability to work as a team member
  5. Highly organized and detail oriented
  6. Must have excellent computer skills and ability to work with specialized software programs
  7. Supportive of the mission and goals of the GoggleWorks
  8. Excellent written and oral communication skills
  9. Ability to manage competing priorities effectively
  10. Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to deal effectively and courteously with the public, artists, vendors and other staff members.
  11. Proficiency in Spanish a plus

Director of MasterSinging Job Opening

Berks Classical Children’s Chorus, Reading, PA, seeks a qualified Choral Director to assume the duties of Director of the MasterSingers, a highly skilled, auditioned, mixed chorus (SATB), with singers in grades 8 through 12.  The qualified candidate for this part-time, salaried position will hold a Masters Degree in choral conducting, voice, or appropriate related field, or be currently enrolled in a graduate program in the field.  Highly desirable skills include a solid understanding of the young voice, good conducting skills, good interpersonal skills, and a broad knowledge of the choral repertoire. The Director of MasterSingers will interface with the directors of the organization’s three other ensembles and the Executive Director. This position involves weekly rehearsals, various concerts, and staff meetings, approximately ten months a year.

Job will begin May 2011.

Mentoring and the Arts Program Seeking Mentors

The Mentoring and the Arts Program is seeking mentors for at-risk youth ages 10-18. Arts experience is encouraged, but not necessary. Individual is responsible for aiding during group hours, scheduling weekly meetings with mentees, participate in special events, and provide monthly reports consisting of detailed case notes. Individual must be responsible and willing to commit to program. Must be available to work on a Wednesday or Thursday night.

Applications for studio space in the GoggleWorks are now being accepted from artists who are serious about pursuing their art in the professional setting of a community facility. Studios are intended to be for working artists and although artists may display and sell work from their studios, the primary function of the studio is to create art. Studios at the GoggleWorks will be awarded to artists of merit as selected by the GoggleWorks Artist Selection Committee.
